Titans, Canons do battle as NBL returns

first_img Tags: KIU TiatansNBL 2018Ndejje University AngelsUCU CanonsUPDF Tomahawks KIU’s Chris Omanyi (right) is expected to return this evening against UCU (File Photo)National Basketball League 2018YMCA Courts, WandegeyaWednesday, 18-07-2018-UPDF Tomahawks Vs Ndejje Angels, 6 PM-KIU Titans Vs UCU Canons, 8 PMThe FUBA National Basketball league will return at YMCA Court in Wandegeya on Wednesday evening with two games in the Men’s division.KIU Titans and UCU Canons are set to face off this in the late kick-off in what is commonly known as the ‘University derby’.Both sides will be playing their hearts out as this tie finds them under a poor run of form lately.Title contenders KIU Titans go into the game having lost their last two games in the league.Brian Wathum’s side lost 65-67 to rivals BetWay Power before going down 78-81 to giant slayers Ndejje Angles in the last game.If you add the first round loss to Power, KIU is now on a 1/4 record in their last four games.The dip in form has seen the Kansanga based side slip from second on the log to fifth, something that surely is not going down well with their faithfuls.KIU is expected to welcome back star player Chris Omanyi who was absent in the loss to Ndejje and will be a major boost for last season’s runners up.Wathum and his charges will come into this tie with confidence as they won the last meeting in the first round 51-55 on June 23rd at UCU in Mukono.For UCU Canons, they have dropped to 5-6 record, and the side find themselves at the wrong end of the table as they sit second from bottom.Including their loss to Warriors (by forfeit), UCU has managed just one win in their last five league games, a 71-51 victory over Our Saviour on 24th of last month.The team’s last league game was on Sunday when they lost 77-51 to five time champions City Oilers, in their own backyard – UCU courts in Mukono.Coach Nicholas Natuhereza will hope that the team’s core of Fadhil Chuma, Titus Lual, Joas Maheta and David Deng Kongor are at their best, ahead of the tie.In the other game, UPDF will hope to pick their fifth victory of the season when they take on Ndejje Angels.Walker Obedi’s side will come into this game at the back of a humiliating loss to JKL Dolphins, a defeat that ended their four game winning streak. The University side had beaten up on big teams in Power, KIU and City Oilers.Baker Kyambadde’s side will on the other hand hope to build on their recent victory against Charging Rhino.Comments last_img
