Skilled Crana College students win national awards

first_imgTwo ambitious Crana College students have won top prizes in this year’s National Career Skills Competition.The competition encourages young people to investigate career options through work experience and develop skills for future careers.Ava Hirrell was placed first in the Transition Year category, while Ciara Whoriskey was also Commended in the TY category. Anne McElhinney, Ava Hirrell & Careers Co-Ordinator Shirley McConalogueAva based her entry on pursuing a career as a GP, the educational pathways available and knowledge and skills required. She also had to explain which skills she had observed during her work experience at An Siopa Gruaige.Ava reflected on how the skills she developed during her work experience, in particular, communication and people skills can also be applied to working as a General Practitioner.Ciara Whoriskey & Co-Ordinator Shirley McConalogueCiara carried out an investigation of a career as a third level lecturer in English. Her work placement was in Scoil Iosagain where she learned many new skills and was able to compare them to the career she investigated.
