WhatsApp working on a standalone app for Apple iPad

first_imgWhatsApp is planning to bring a number of new features on to its Android and iOS apps. Even as it adds new functionality to tackle some of more pressing issues plaguing its platform – fake news and misinformation – one functionality that remained missing from the Facebook-owned social messaging app is the support for the Apple iPad. Sure, the company allowed iPad owners to access WhatsApp web when connected with an iPhone, but the company never had a standalone app for the device. But that is about to change as the word is that WhatsApp is planning to introduce a special app for the Apple iPad owners.According to a report by WABetaInfo, the blog that extensively tracks developments in WhatsApp, the company has finally started building a separate app for the Apple iPad. While there is a possibility that users might not be able to spot the app in the App Store for iPad right away, but this is likely to change with the next beta update on TestFlight. But for those who are curious to know what the app would look like on the Apple iPad, the blog shared some screenshots from the app that is still in development. The app opens like the regular WhatsApp for iOS on the iPad and it can used after users have registered themselves on the app using a different phone. Interestingly, while the features for WhatsApp’s iPad app remain same as that of its app for the iPhones, the user interface has been completely redesigned to make the app compatible with the iPad.advertisementFor starters, the hat screen and the call screen have been redesigned in the split view, which makes the overall experience quite similar to the WhatsApp Web UI. Similarly, the Settings menu too has been redesigned in the split view. However, the status screen and the voice call screen haven’t been redesign and they look exactly the way they do on WhatsApp’s iOS app. Additionally, the app has been spotted to sport a Touch ID feature, which would allow users to lock the app natively.Notably, there is no official word on when the company would release its standalone app for the Apple iPad. However, with the reports suggesting that the app is already in development, one can assume that it could happen sooner than expected.ALSO READ: | WhatsApp tips: How to mark messages unread and 6 other tricks you may not know aboutALSO READ: | From search image to In-app browser, here are top five WhatsApp features coming soonALSO READ: | From dark mode to forwarding info, here are top five features coming to WhatsApp for Androidlast_img
